Hi! My name is Shelby Fishman and I am a multimedia student journalist with experience in producing, editing, writing and anchoring. I’m a recent graduate from Southern Methodist University and am continuing my education at American University to gain my master’s in journalism with a broadcast specialty.
I have gained experience in professional settings and through student media. I am currently the assistant commerce editor at MarketWatch, a Dow Jones subsidiary. I copy edit finance, real estate and commerce-related stories. I also produce articles for publication using MarketWatch’s content management system, and photoshop product shots and other images for articles.
While at SMU, I worked for SMU-TV’s The Daily Update for over two years, SMU’s student-run broadcast show that is filmed Monday through Friday. I gained pre-professional training and knowledge by taking on positions during each show as well as writing broadcast-style stories for it. Positions for the show included anchor, producer, director, technical director, audio engineer, video server, studio cameras, floor director, and teleprompter. After working my way up through various broadcast roles, I was offered the position of Junior Executive Producer in August 2020, and the position of Senior Executive Producer in January 2021. As an Executive Producer, I stacked rundowns, mentored beginner broadcast students, wrote, edited, and produced weekly shows. I was a reporter for SMU-TV as well since August 2019.
During the summer of 2020, I interned for Modern Luxury, the nation’s largest luxury media company. I wrote over 20 articles that were published in many of Modern Luxury’s city magazines including the Atlantan, Jezebel, Hamptons Magazine, Modern Luxury Dallas, Houston Magazine, Vegas Magazine and Modern Luxury Weddings Chicago.
